Lisa Blas : Round the Old Oak Tree 2004-2006
Ephemeral mixed-media collages are formed with Canson paper and office supply materials such as slide labels and stars. Through the layering of 35mm slide labels printed with titles and names, notions of authorship co-exist with the framing of historical truths and myths. Each image utilizes a saturated background color standing in for Union blue, Confederate grey, or Hallmark lavender. The collages are then scanned and printed as C-prints, where the luminous color and sculptural nature of overlapping materials and language is collapsed within one continuous surface.
